CGSearch is a mobile Green IT application that would enable users across United States to know and visually compare the air quality index, air pollutant levels, energy consumption of various cites of US and compare same with Atlanta. These cities denote the places for example where the users would like to travel for a short holiday/vacation/deputation/permanent stay. Names of cities whose data are currently available and travel options are listed in the application. Users can pick any option from the list and view the graphical data. Users can reset the graph by using the homepage icon. Government of United States of America has been recording these environmental variables (data) by placing sensors at different part of certain cities. These are available for general public and CGSearch used the historic data to build models that would help to generate/predict data for the future. Data that has been represented are based on the forecasted values and found to be realistic with the acceptable error limit but may not be 100% accurate.
How would it be helpful? Air components provide information about air pollution. For example an air quality index value greater than 50 could lead to health hazard. Hence if an air quality index value for a particular city is more than 50 or more than the current city then it is not advisable to travel to the city and stay for a longer time. In general such a application can help in planning the nature of travel. Significant presence of other features like carbon monoxide (CO),Sulphur di oxide (SO2), Nitrogen Di Oxide (NO2), Ozone (o3), Particulate Matter (pm 2.5/pm 10),Lead (Pb) etc could also lead to health hazards. For example according to an report published in Journal of American Medical Association in 2004 exposure to significant levels of particulate matter (pm) could lead to increase in mortality rates. Users could also know about the general energy consumption in that particular area/state. Depending on the energy resource users can identify whether the area is exposed to industrial waste which could lead to significant air/water contamination.
